In 1999, the Center for World Music
embarked on a new World Music in the Schools Program in San Diego
city and county. It has continued to develop exponentially since then, as have the study abroad and concerts programs.
For 2011-2012, the center is pleased to announce its cadre of artist-teachers and ensembles-in-residence of traditional music and dance from around the world: India, Indonesia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and Europe. Funded by city, county, state, federal, and private Artists-in-Schools grants, these artist-teachers and ensembles are available during the academic school year 2011-2012 for short-term or year-round weekly classes as well as for performances at school assemblies. Our artist-teachers are currently teaching weekly music and dance classes to thousands of San Diego's public school children.
