In the spring of 1999, the Center for World Music embarked on a new World Music in the Schools program in San Diego city and county. The program has continued to develop since then. The pages that follow give an overview of the program and its progress.

This program has been made possible by support from the Asian Cultural Council, the  California Arts Council, the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Special thanks to Monty Levenson of Tai Hei Shakuhachi for his generous donation of several of his fine shakuhachis (Japanese bamboo flutes) to the Center's World Music in the Schools Program.
