Welcome. The Center for World Music is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to foster awareness and understanding of the world's performing arts traditions through study abroad programs, teaching, and performance. During 2013 the Center celebrates its 50th Year Anniversary.
The Center sponsors educational programs abroad opportunities in diverse areas of the world: hands-on music and dance workshops and cultural tours to such destinations as Indonesia, India, Ghana, Turkey, China, Mexico, and Peru.
In 1999 the Center created a unique world music in the schools program in San Diego city and county. For its schools program, the Center currently maintains a roster of 34 native and native-trained artist-teachers and 20 ensembles-in-residence.
The Center presents 4 types of concert series (public, participatory, house, and international) as well as several performing arts festivals of traditional music and dance from around the world, featuring distinguished San Diego artists, visiting international artists, and artist-teachers in residence from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe.

The Center for World Music receives support from the National Endowment
